2 Ways to Celebrate Galentine’s Day

2 ways to celebrate Galentine's Day

I’m rarely excited about Valentine’s Day. It has nothing to do with how “the romance” is going in my marriage. It’s just never been one of my favorites as an adult. I’m more of a birthday celebration type of person. I  do like the idea of Galentine’s Day (which was sparked by the Parks and Recreation television show) though. I’m a fan of “ladies celebrating ladies” every day anyway. Also, the philia/friendship type of love isn’t observed enough in our society in my opinion. That is why I’m celebrating Galentine’s Day in a couple of meaningful ways.

One way to celebrate female friends is to schedule things that they will enjoy. For instance, I have a friend who would love to visit The Blue Box Cafe. We would literally be having breakfast at Tiffany’s. Although we’re not going there today, I’m working on it. Getting a reservation is a bit of a challenge. I’m constantly on the Resy site trying to snag 2 seats. I think that I’ve finally figured it out. I just need to be logged into my account at 9am so that I can get a reservation 31-days out.  Okaaay. 🙂

Another way to honor women is to support their businesses. Like I mentioned, I don’t really acknowled Valentine’s Day that much. Yet, I noticed that some friends (both online and in real life ones) are selling cool items so I emailed my husband Reggie and asked him to get one of the items for me. (I’ll get the others as gifts for friends.) If your girlfriends don’t sell anything, you can buy the gift that I requested.

Reggie purchased the Bloom Beautifully’s Self Care Box for me because it was the item that I noticed first. I initially learned of Tara Pringle Jefferson, the owner, when she was a blogger at TheYoungMommyLife.com. Like many of us early bloggers, Tara has expanded to other business ventures – including this self-care box company.

I try to support my friends’ various ventures whenever I happen to notice them, but now I’m proactively looking at my friends’ Facebook feeds to see what they offer. In doing so, I realized that I have several friends with Etsy businesses plus a niece and cousin who sell handmade jewelry. I’ll be buying gifts from friends and family as gifts for others as well as for my own shopping needs. Supporting girlfriends definitely isn’t limited to one day!

However you observe the day, I hope that you have an enjoyable Galentine’s Day!
