Friday Favorites (Back to School Tips & More)

Friday Favorites is a compilation of some of the favorite things that my family has done, eaten or read about in the past week.

1. Peach Cobbler (Recipe): For our summer cooking class, the boys and I did a mash-up of several recipes in order to make a peach cobbler. It was SO good. Even my husband Reggie wanted seconds. That’s a big deal, because apple pie is the only dessert that he usually likes this much! (I made a second one for a friend today to make sure that the first one wasn’t a “beginner’s luck” type of deal. It wasn’t so I’ll be posting the recipe next week.)

2. Skylanders SuperChargers (Video Game): My sons have been playing Skylanders since the videogame came out. That is why we were excited to see that the new Skylanders SuperChargers (which is being released on 9/20) will introduce an online multiplayer option. In addition to a variety of ways to play, there will be new racing action packs and a supplementary racing combat game – Skylanders SuperChargers Racing – for the Wii and Nintendo 3DS systems.

3. Olio e Piu (NYC Restaurant): I thoroughly enjoyed the food, atmosphere and service at this Italian restaurant on Greenwich Avenue that I visited with a dear friend. (We had the Pizza Boscaiola and Pizza Capricciosa.)

4. August – November 2015 Issue of Time Out New York Kids (Magazine): A friend gave me a copy of the magazine because it reminded her of my kids for some reason. I thought that my subscription had expired, but it didn’t so I need to pay the gift forward. Anyway, I especially like this issue because it features back to school tips from some of my blogging colleagues (Kelsey, Serena, Maria, Brianne, Lance and Amy) in its back-to-school guide.

5. NYC Restaurant Week/Nobu New York (NYC Restaurant): I love NYC Restaurant Week. It’s a great opportunity to try a variety of new food at a reasonable price. I had promised my 11-year-old son Michael that I would take him to Nobu during Restuarant Week because sushi is his favorite food. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meal – from the soft shell crab appetizer to to Earl Grey creme brûlée dessert. I especially appreciated that they waitress didn’t bring Michael a chopstick alternative for the meal. Instead, she gave him a set of FUNCHOP Chopstick Helpers* to use…and that is exactly what my little left-handed child used to enjoy his meal.
