The Columbus Day Parade and New York Comic Con have come and gone but there are still plenty of fun New York family events and activities to enjoy in NYC during the rest of October. Below are my top picks:
1. 2016 OHNY Weekend
(October 15 & 16) If you’re interested in architecture, don’t miss the 14th annual Open House NY celebration.
(October 1 – 31) The celebration of architecture continues with this sixth annual festival. Activities, programs and exhibitions are used to highlight Architecture and Design Month in over 100 ways.
3. Fall Foliage
(October 1 – 31) Before it gets super cold outside, it’s the perfect time for a family walk. Get some exercise while seeing nature’s beautiful changes in color. Best fall foliage in New York, from Central Park to the Catskills – Time Out is a great resource to plot out your trek.
4. Fall Food Festivals
(Various Dates) If your family likes to eat a variety of foods together (like mine), then New York is a great place to be! Enjoy some of the best food and drinks at the various festivals being held this season. The 7th Annual “Taste of the Seaport” (October 15) looks especially tasty.
5. Halloween Events
(Various Dates) New York is one of the best places to celebrate Halloween. My family has enjoyed the American Museum of Natural History’s Halloween Celebration in the past. The kids have their costumes for this year but we don’t know where we will go yet. If you haven’t decided either, my friends over at Mommy Poppins have compiled a great list of the Best Free Halloween Events for Kids in New York City – Mommy Poppins.
(It’s a little late in the season, but we’re going apple-picking at DuBois next weekend. Hopefully, there will still be plenty of apples on the trees! If I missed out on any fun New York family events that I missed, definitely let me know. Thanks!)
