One of my birthday gifts was a coupon for a “Manicure and a Movie”. I finally had the chance to redeem it on Saturday while my dear husband and kids attended a family lunch/dinner. (Thanks Susan!)
I don’t normally get manicures, because they get messed up within a day, so this was a special treat. (I’m more of a pedicure person.) Anyway, we went to this new salon, J C Nail Salon (212-947-4660; 204 W 30th St.). It was a little small, but nice and clean. The staff was also very attentive. I picked my almost nude pink (Essie’s Starter Wife – ha!) and enjoyed a little pampering. (As a bonus, one of the staff gave us a mini massage – I want to go back for the full one!)
Afterwards, we went to the movies. There’s nothing out right now that I REALLY want to see, so we went to see Get Smart. It was some great brain-candy. There were a few gross parts that made squeamish me cover my eyes – think accidental body piercing and rat in your clothes – yuck! Overall though, the movie was funny and all of the actors were fantastic. Of course, a movie is not complete for me without the mandatory nachos, which my friend so sweetly treated me to also.
