Mother’s Day 2013 Gift Guide: Fashion and Beauty Gifts
(Including a CVS Beauty and Shabby Apple Mother’s Day Giveaway!)

Congrats to the Shabby Apple (MA) and CVS (Henria O.) winners!

We moms don’t stop caring about our physical appearance just because we give birth. We still want to look (and smell!) nice. That is why these next 8 picks are choices that help moms take care of themselves.

Beauty Picks

Shopping for hair products, skin care, makeup, nail polish and other beauty products all depend on the recipient. However, “moms like me” would love to receive…

1. Carol’s Daughter Monoi Oil:
Every woman has different hair needs, so buy what the gift recipient will like. Currently, I am in love with this CD serum. It smells SO good and it helps keep my hair nice and soft instead of frizzy and fried when I use the blow dryer.

2. Angel by Thierry Mugler :
Fragrance picks (the right ones!) are great gift options. (I wrote about ANGEL my favorite scent of the moment on the Mother’s Day 2013 Gift Fragrances post.)

3. Aveeno Positively Radiant skin care line:
While genetics plays a big role in how great your skin looks, the right cleanser and moisturizer definitely helps. I have been using Aveeno products for several years and they work well for my skin.

4. Spa Gift Card:
My family is doing a special thing for some of the mom friends in our lives. When we asked what they wanted, the #1 response was a “massage”. (I’m getting one too.) My second choice would be a pedicure…massages and pedicures are my favorite spa treats.

I had mentioned in the Getting Gorgeous with CVS Beauty Club recap that I would be “sharing” a portion of my CVS gift card win with one of you. To enter to win $50 worth of CVS beauty products, simply let me know which beauty items that you would like (totaling up to $50) in the “Comments” section below. The winner will be chosen in a random drawing on May 10th at noon. Good luck!

[After looking through my makeup bag, I would pick the Maybelline FITme foundation, the ARDELL lashes (for special nights out), Tweezerman slant tweezers, Maybelline’s dark brown brow & eye pencils (which I actually use as a lip liner) and L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara in Black.]

Fashion Picks

Fashion is almost as subjective as beauty. It all goes back to knowing the gift recipient. Take the time to study her personal style and choose your gifts accordingly. (If you really have no idea, do both you and the gift recipient a favor…give her a gift card with a thoughtful note! ☺ Here are some fashion options that I and/or my fellow mom friends have been buzzing about lately though…

1. A necklace from Tiffany & Co.:
There really is something special about receiving a gift packaged in Tiffany’s famous blue boxes. You can get my favorite (the open heart pendant) for under $200.

2. Other Beautiful Jewelry:
If your budget is in the $100 and under category, I highly recommend the Nelle & Lizzy name rings. I have worn mine (with the names “Michael” and “Sean” on them) for the last 6 years. Bracelets from Jade & Jasper are also great picks. They are reasonably priced and gorgeous.

3. Handbags: Handbags by Michael Kors or Tory Burch handbags would put a smile on the faces of most moms. (Personally, I’m also a big fan of the classic yet colorful Coach and Kate Spade bags too.)

4. Gift Cards to the recipient’s favorite shoes and clothing stores:
The sky is the limit. It all depends on where the gift recipient likes to shop. C. Wonder, Gap, Not Your Daughter’s Jeans (NYDJ) and Shabby Apple are all great options.

Speaking of Shabby Apple…

Shabby Apple has some great vintage-inspired clothing options. For instance, I received so many compliments when I wore their bright, sunny “Yellow Days” dress that Shabby Apple had sent me to review.

Shabby Apple is also kind enough to be giving away a $50 gift card to one lucky Mom in the City readers. To enter to win the gift card, simply let me know your favorite Shabby Apple piece in the “Comments” section below. The winner will be chosen in a random drawing on May 10th at noon. Good luck!
