The truth about Santa Claus

Although we “neither confirm nor deny” the existence of Santa Claus, I still think that it’s sweet that my 5-year-old son Sean still “kind of” believes in him. It definitely keeps me on my toes during the holiday season.

“So, how is Santa going to drop off presents since we don’t have a chimney?”- Sean

“What do YOU think?” – My response
(Safe! We had just watched The Santa Claus so he came up with his thoughts based on the movie.)

Later, I slipped and answered a question by saying, “Well, we’re going to make sure that each of you only get three gifts from us but it’s fine if you get gifts from other family and friends.”

“What do you mean 3 gifts from YOU and DADDY?” – Sean

“Ooh, look at the tree. It’s so pretty.” – Me
(Thankfully, the redirect worked…or he just humored me.)

I really think that Sean knows the truth about the existence of Santa Clause already, but that he wants to humor us for a little while longer. Kids today are so bright and quick-minded (?!) If not…forget about other kids ruining it for him. I’m SO going to accidentally spill the beans
