Instead of writing a post for Friday, I’m going to bed. We had friends over tonight, which was a lot of fun. I’m so grateful that my sons have a lot of fake “Aunties” and “Uncles” who adore them (almost) as much as my husband and I do. It can be challenging to settle them down from those attention “highs” though. (That’s why I make them take a nap before we have evening company on the weekdays. Otherwise, the Friday morning school routine would be a nightmare!)
Since I’ll be playing catch-up on Friday, I’ll leave you with a few links from some of my favorite people around the blogosphere…
For Bloggers
-Chris Brogan wrote a great piece Slicing Your Social Media Pie over at American Express’s OPEN Forum.
-I stand corrected: there are blogging celebrities. Even though I had personally never heard of Dooce before entering the blogging world, it turns out that she really is a big deal. Congrats to her and her HGTV deal that you can read about here. Honestly, I love whenever something great happens to another mom. It shows that the sky is the limit…
-Maria Bailey has an especially informative Marketing to Moms Video Series (offline, twitter, video, etc.) over on YouTube that you can view here.
For Everyone
-For my fellow gamer families, Xbox is trying to pull me over to the “dark side”. I never gave a second thought about adding another gaming system to our home until I saw this video of Xbox360′s “Project Natal”. I’m tempted to cheat on my Nintendo Wii…
-You know how people can be so extreme in their parenting positions? Usually, I find that pretty annoying when it comes to matters of opinion. That is why I found the respectful discussion over at Breast versus… breast? To cover up or not (over at Real Moms Guide) especially refreshing. My views are a little different than those of Stephanie Precourt who wrote the original post, yet I really enjoyed the intelligent conversation. (For the record, this was my comment to the closing question, “What do you think? Do you think breastfeeding moms should cover up?”:
I think breastfeeding moms should cover up. I’m not offended when they don’t, but I think that they should be considerate of those around them (not just expect everyone to be considerate of their choice) – especially in mixed (male/female) company.
For the record, I’m very pro-breastfeeding. I breastfed both of my sons until they were 2+. It’s not that I think breastfeeding is a sexual act. However, there are many things that are not sexual acts that I don’t particularly want to see unexpectedly in public places.
Of course there are times when breastfeeding moms can’t cover up. So be it. It’s not a big deal. A baby’s need to eat is more important than a stranger’s discomfort. Overall though, I think that consideration goes both ways.
And
-Just in case you missed it, my most-read post of the week was “When My Son Uses The “N” Word…” Readers have been sending me emails, tweets and such regarding their own kids’ “letter” words. The innocence of youth…
Have a great weekend!
