Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt opens first shop in NYC

Last night, Sean and I bundled up and caught the train into the city for the grand opening of the first Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt shop in NYC. I was covering the opening for Mom in the City, but I wondered whether a frozen yogurt shop would have a good turnout since it was so cold outside. Well, I didn’t even need to be concerned…the shop was crowded. I guess that New Yorkers (both adults and kids!) love their froyo…hot weather or cold.

After Sean had his face painted, Batman grabbed a cup and was ready to sample the frozen yogurts. He waited (somewhat) patiently as I first took photos of the store and then he was free to sample to his little heart’s content. We tested a couple of options before making our purchase. There were 16 flavors including no-sugar-added, gluten-free and lactose-free alternatives. You could also make your own combinations of any two frozen yogurts that were beside each other. Our absolute favorite was the caramel apple and cheesecake mixture…it tasted like apple pie!

Once we picked our flavor, we added some toppings. There were a wide variety of options, but we primarily stuck to the cookie toppings…although Sean did throw in a few gummy bears. We choose the cookies because they came from Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, a pediatric cancer non-profit organization. (Orange Leaf is donating all of the proceeds from last night’s grand opening to Cookies for Kids’ Cancer.)

Then, we paid for our treat. You just put it on the scale and pay by the ounce. The scale read “7.7” so I thought that the price would be $7.70. It wasn’t though…it was only $4 and some change. I definitely think that it was worth the price. As soon as we paid, Sean started digging into his creation. It was really good!

I was gifted a $10 Orange Leaf gift card to pay for our treat, but I just paid with my own money since everything was going to charity. That means I have a $10 Orange Leaf gift card to give to one of you. I don’t think that it has an expiration date, so you can wait until the weather warms up if you like. I wouldn’t! To win the gift card, simply let me know the Orange Leaf frozen yogurt flavor that you think you (or your kids) will like the best. I’ll pick a winner at noon on Monday. Have a great weekend!
