Protecting Children Against Winter Skin (with a $100+ Value Aquaphor/Visa Gift Card/Dwell Studio Hooded Towel Giveaway)

by Kimberly on December 17, 2012

Congrats to the winner, Suzanne Chan

Winter is right around the corner. It actually starts this Friday, December 21st. While I definitely prefer the cold weather to the heat of summer, there are certain aspects of winter that I don’t like. For instance, the cold, dry air wreaks havoc not only on my skin but also on my sons’ skin. (We all tend to have dry skin. In the past, my sons’ pediatrician had recommended Eucerin, which I promptly purchased. That is why when I was asked to participate in a promotion for Eucerin’s Aquaphor, I was happy to oblige.

You probably already know that Aquaphor is great in treating and preventing diaper rash. It is, but I also love that it is a multi-use winter product for children. There are two main ways that I use the Aquaphor Baby Healing Ointment in the cold weather for my kids (and myself!):

1. It works great as a lip balm for dry, chapped lips. Just “brush” your kids’ lips with a soft toothbrush and apply the ointment.

2. It keeps dry hands, feet, knees and elbows moisturized. If your kids have especially dry feet, lather their feet with the ointment and have them sleep in old white socks. It makes a world of difference!

Aquaphor also has a gentle wash and shampoo. I will admit that I was a bit hesitant to use it on my kids’ skin at first. (In addition to having dry skin, they are allergic to all but the most simple body cleansers and lotions.) I was reassured after checking the product on goodguide.com (one of my trusted resources when researching the health information of consumer products). None of the ingredients are controversial, medium concern or high concern when it comes to health. Best of all, after using it on my son Sean, I have not noticed any negative reactions.

And now (for my last holiday giveaway of 2012), Aquaphor has a special giveaway package for one lucky Mom in the City reader. It includes:

-(1) Aquaphor Baby Gentle Wash & Shampoo

-(1) Aquaphor Baby Healing Ointment

-(1) $50 Visa Gift Card

and

-(1) Hooded towel from Dwell Studios ($52 value) What a cute and cozy way to keep your little ones nice and warm after bath time!

To enter to win the package, simply share one of the tips on caring for your baby or young kid’s skin that you find when visiting Aquaphor’s Facebook page. (While there, you can also print out a “Save $1 on Aquaphor” coupon under their “Athletes” tab if you would like one.) For an additional entry, you can answer the following question that I “borrowed” from Aquaphor US’s Facebook page:

“Give the gift of smooth skin this year! What’s the best gift you’ve ever given or received?”

I will use random.org to pick the winning comment on 12/21 at noon. Good luck!

{Disclosure: I was compensated for working on this promotion, but (as always) my thoughts and opinions are not for sale.}

I didn’t see any tips on their Facebook page, but I went to the Aquaphor website and saw some tips regarding eczema in babies. They said to avoid harsh soaps and fragrances.

You can use Aquaphor to heal dry and rough skin, plus it gentle enough for your babies.
