I am at Disney Social Media Moms. I’m having fun and learning a lot. I just wanted to share this one session, because one of my favorite online writers Chris Brogan is talking. Enjoy the notes!

Chris Brogan
(Chris flows from one topic to the other, so I’m just sharing the gist of his main points.)

Saraboni (sp?) – I see you

It’s about how you face the chairs. Facilitate conversations among readers.

Ask “why” rather than “how”.

Customer service is the new world – every business has marketing, sales and customer service.

Sales isn’t evil…it’s “delicious”. You have to be good at sales. If you can of service to others, that is great.

Do – try things.

Work

Play – Read “Reality is broken.”

Then what? Then what? – What else can you do to bring things forward/bring opportunity to you? Don’t just coast.

Social media helps you to create your own dial tone. Finding and connecting to people in their language is so important.

Attention: Visit other people’s blog and comment on other blogs.

Raise each other up.

Be the “go-to guy” – share what’s good and connect others.

Start with you – Make you whole first (i.e. oxygen mask on plane – put your own one on first).

Then, start with the other “yous”. Find out about others. Get your message out on various distribution networks.

He is currently interested in forums and email marketing. Design emails – make brief, plain, less than 200 words, call to one action. (Groupon – great example)

Crap
C – Connections: always be connecting (you live or die by your database)
R – Referrals: “Referral Engine” is a great book
A – Attention and awareness:
P – Presence

Question: How much should I blog? Answer: How much traffic do you want?

Money: Be specific regarding what you want. (He does “mortgage math”.) Start thinking and talking about it.

Get wptouch – implement it on your blog.

How to make time:
-Look for scraps of time. (My pad – 3 x 5 cards to write on)

-Don’t watch as much tv.

-Use camera phone to observe images of daily life.

-Stop saying “yes” to things. Close the number of things on your browser.

Don’t focus so much on branding. Focus on being you.

How to make content:
-Just write: He’s not obsessed with perfection. “Good enough is good enough.”

Q&A Highlights:

-Think about what you want your day to look like and plan around it.

-If you want to do video, you must be on youtube. Keep it brief. “Editing is good manners.” Work on brevity. Brevity. Brevity. Brevity. The audio is more important than the video. Use external mike when you can. (He uses his Lumix.) Don’t pay attention to youtube comments.

Forums: They are a great way to build community. Every voice looks the same.
