MADAGASCAR: ESCAPE 2 AFRICA is currently out on DVD and Blu-ray. Back in December, many Mom in the City members were treated to a free showing of the movie on the brand new, state of the art, IMAX screen at the AMC Empire 25 in Times Square. Below are some of the comments that I received regarding the movie. (The overwhelming majority were positive.)

-We both enjoyed “Madagascar 2″ very much. .
-The movie was great. “P” and “KK” enjoyed it a lot. They sat for the whole movie glued to the screen. Thank you again for the opportunity to view the movie at the IMAX theatre.
-Madagascar 2 was great. Both of my kids (ages 7 and 4.5) had a blast. I would really appreciate more events like this.
-I was disappointing with Madagascar 2. We actually didn’t stay for the full movie. I am frustrated with movies that are geared for children, but I don’t feel are appropriate for them. I attempted to find out if the movie was appropriate for a 3 1/2 year old prior to attending. It seemed that most felt it was ok for a 3 year old. The animals are cute and cuddly, but when they beat up old ladies and old ladies beat up them, what does that say? Also, when the penguins run over the old lady is the movie and say “kill her.” What does that say to 4 year old? I know that they are relatively small things, but it is the small things that begin the desensitization our kids are facing way too early. I am sorry; I will get off my soap box. I will use more discretion in the future.
-My family and I had a great time at the Madagascar screening. “A” is 2 and a half and her first movie experience was an Imax! She enjoyed the movie. We all did. The theater wasn’t full Tues night either. It’s one of our favorite venues. Thanks for bringing this wonderful experience to Mom in the City!
-Thanks so much for the tickets. Enyon and I had a great time. She could not stop singing “I like to move it, move it…….” Seeing it on IMAX was incredible!!! The volume was a bit much for her in the beginning but it was ok after a few minutes.
-Thank you soo much! My daughter cannot stop playing with her clipo set…I was going to buy that for her for Christmas. Plus, we were soo blessed that we got the last one.
-About Madagascar I can say my daughter enjoyed the first 30 minutes. After the “I like to move it” song she just clapped and started dancing and doing what ever. I guess she is in the age where she can’t stay sitting for too long. As a parent I did not like the story. It was nothing like part one. This Madagascar has an old lady that does not like animals and is very violent. As an adult she was funny, but for children all they see is violence. Don’t get me wrong, I had fun and enjoyed the movie because to me this is a funny adult movie. But if you ask me if I would recommend it for children, I would say no. We need to send out good messages to our children. They are intakers and copiers of everything around them.
-I wanted to say thanks you for the invite to see the movie my daughter Alyson loves this movie so it was great to have our family go and watch it.
-Thank you for the opportunity to view Madagascar 2 last night. My children had a blast and I am happy to have had the chance to meet you!
-This was a really nice experience
-The story line was a cross between Lion King and Happy Feet; I definitely enjoyed the first one more. I was extremely happy with the process of obtaining the tickets. We have been invited/given invitations to many free screenings over the years that have been on a first come, first served basis. This is the first time that we received an actual ticket! The theater was not overbooked and well kept. Our children had a great time. The late viewing hour on a weekday proved to be challenging the next day, but it was all worth it! Thank you, again!
-I saw Madagascar 2, after repeated viewings of the wonderful original Madagascar. What a disappointment! People should be aware that this one is quite different–it is by turns sad, scary, and gratuitously violent. For example, in the first five minutes, a baby lion is stolen by hunters and his father is shot (not fatally)–this had my five-year-old in hysterics. This is followed shortly by a very long, very graphic plane crash scene (flames shooting from the wings, etc.). The characters are also constantly beating up on a little old woman–very violently. Although the woman is unpleasant, the violence is way beyond acceptable.
-My entire family loved seeing Madagascar 2 on IMAX. Wow, what an experience! It was such a fun movie and seeing it on the big screen made it even more exciting. We laughed a ton. Let me know if you wanted more details about our experience. Thanks so much for the tickets. We had a blast!
-We had the most wonderful time at the movie. It was so amazing to be able to see the movie on the Imax screen with stadium seating. It was nice to have a lot of kids around, so we weren’t so nervous about our kids making noise. We had a great first experience at the movies. Thanks again for setting it up.
-It was a wonderful movie and it was even better that it was in an Imax theater. Loved the movie can’t wait until it comes out on DVD
-Parents should be warned to approach this one with a degree of caution, especially if they’re expecting a repeat of the cheerful, funny original. Or if their child is at all sensitive to violence or fears of parental abandonment.
-It was hilarious. We enjoyed it so much that we will be adding it to our collection. Thank you.
-I just want to say thank you so much my kids enjoyed the movie I was surprise that my 19 month sat and watch most of the movie. It was actually our first time going to that movie theater. My son loves the screen and requested that from now on we always go to this movie theater. Thanks for making Dec. 9th a special outing for my family.
-We enjoyed the Monday night show with our 3-year-old. It was her first movie and a great experience. She now points to billboards with the Madagascar ad and yells in delight “the king!”, “Alex!”, “Madagascar!” She also loves penguins. She definitely enjoyed the movie as did we (my husband and I). The animation was great as was the music. I think the movie length was good too. She did get out of her chair about 3/4′s of the way through to climb up and down the stairs in the aisle ways…It was a very pleasant movie and a great experience. Thanks and have a great day and terrific holiday.
-My son loved the movie. He liked when the lion danced the best, and of course the I like to move it song, which he has not stopped singing. He laughed so hard. I liked it also and was so happy to see my son enjoying it. Thank You so much for the opportunity to have a nice evening with my son.
