You and your children can eat right and still enjoy delicious treats! There are several companies out there that offer healthier baking options. My house has felt like a bakery the last few days as Michael and I have tested a variety of products that were sent to us.
First, we baked a cake with Naturally Nora’s Alot’ a Dots cake and frosting mixes. (This line makes all-natural cake and frosting mixes with no hydrogenated oils or artificial ingredients of any kind.) Both the cake and the frosting were easy to make. I was especially impressed by how tasty and easy it was to make the frosting. (I’ve never made frosting from a box before!) I was also pleasantly surprised to see how much my sons liked this “all natural” alternative to traditional cake.

Another company, Zebra Mix, makes organic baking mixes (brownies, cupcakes and cookies) that kids can make themselves. We decided to make the brownies (my husband’s favorite). I really like how they package their products as “kits” by including step by step instructions. One side of the “safari baking map” is for ages 4 – 9 and the other side is for ages 9+. Honestly, the map was my favorite part. It’s big, bright and colorful. It also teaches skills such as Spanish, numbers, following directions in order and more. The brownies were tasty. Both of my kids really enjoyed them. (I must say though that the ingredients included 12 tablespoons of butter – that’s a lot!)

In any event, baking with either/both of these products is a great way to spend time with your kids for Valentine’s Day or any day.
(On another note, I’m doing a guest post over at Mom’s Marbles today about “5 Kid-Friendly Valentine’s Day Projects”. Baking together is one of the projects…)
