Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard is a Treat

PercyPackBANNER
I have mentioned in previous posts, how much my family (especially Michael) has enjoyed being a part of the “Percy Pack” promotional campaign. The fact that Mom in the City readers have received special giveaways in relation to the promotion has been an extra bonus. 🙂 This month, we are celebrating the release of Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, Book 1: The Sword of Summer. Michael started to read the book and he was excited about it. However, he is in middle school now and has to read Adventures of Huckleberry Finn first before he finishes up the book. (I actually like that he is reading a combination of classic and current books.) I will have more to write about the Magnus Chase book in November after Michael has read it. Be sure to check back  then because I will also have a holiday giveaway of Magnus Chase. Meanwhile, I wanted to share the following:

A video trailer of the book

A brief “official” synopsis

MAGNUS CHASE AND THE GODS OF ASGARD
Title: The Sword of Summer
On-Sale: October 6, 2015

Description:
Magnus Chase has always been a troubled kid. Since his mother’s mysterious death, he’s lived alone on the streets of Boston, surviving by his wits, keeping one step ahead of the police and the truant officers. One day, he’s tracked down by an uncle he’s never met—a man his mother claimed was dangerous. His uncle tells him an impossible secret: Magnus is the son of a Norse god. The Viking myths are true. The gods of Asgard are preparing for war. Trolls, giants, and worse monsters are stirring for doomsday. To prevent Ragnarök, Magnus must search the Nine Worlds for a weapon that has been lost for thousands of years. When an attack by fire giants forces him to choose between his own safety and the lives of hundreds of innocents, Magnus makes a fatal decision. Sometimes, the only way to start a new life is to die . . .

A Magnus Chase Activity Kit

As a parent, I really appreciate how Rick Riordan offers FREE activity kits for each of his books. You can find The Sword of Summer activity kit over on Read Riordan. I’m a big fan of making learning fun and educational. Michael has already learned so much about Greek and Egyptian gods from the various Riordan series. Now, he is looking forward to learning about Norse gods in this new Magnus Chase series. The activity kit will help. In addition to party ideas, it also includes a “History or Legend” quiz; a geographical exploration with the Norsemen page, word scrambles and searches, mad libs and more. (Did I mention that the activity kit was FREE?!)

A Halloween Bonus

Lastly, if you want to carve a Magnus Chase Halloween pumpkin, you can click here to download a PDF of the template.
