Last week, I attended a Season of Savings Blogger Event at Tony’s Di Napoli. The dinner was amazing and the staff was warm and friendly. (If you have not had the pleasure of enjoying the calamari or stuffed mushrooms at this restaurant, please try to remedy that as soon as possible.) Founded over 25 years ago, Tony’s currently has two locations in NYC. The thing that I like about this restaurant besides the southern Italian food is their community involvement. In addition to their work with Season of Savings, they donate food to the Ronald McDonald house every month for the kids and their parents as well as hosting an annual fundraiser to benefit them.
The main point of the evening was to share about the Season of Savings program that provides coupons for up to 45% off Broadway and Off-Broadway show tickets in addition to other special offers from Times Square area businesses. I have written in the past about my love of the theater. Broadway shows continue to be a quintessential part of NYC life for me. I don’t think that truth will ever change and that is why programs like Season of Savings are such a treat. For the last eleven years, this program has been a great way for theater lovers to enjoy Broadway and Off-Broadway shows at discounted prices. After the 9/11/01 attacks, theater ticket sales and Times Square businesses took an economic hit, so the idea of this special edition Playbill was formed. Published twice a year, the booklet contains discount coupons for restaurants, hotels and other NYC attractions in addition to the show discounts.
As if the savings found in the booklets were not enough, this year Season of Savings is also hosting an online sweepstakes with the grand prize being the “Ultimate Theater Weekend” on October 27th through 28th. Four other winners (one random winner per week during each of the other weeks in September) will also receive a “Night Out in New York City”, which includes two tickets to a participating Season of Savings show and a complimentary dinner for two at Tony’s Di Napoli. The grand prize winner will be chosen the fifth week of September. The “Ultimate Theatre Weekend” winner will receive two tickets to three shows (Mary Poppins, Phantom of the Opera and War Horse); complimentary dinner for two at Tony’s Di Napoli; one night of hotel accommodations and a Broadway gift bag.
