The Coleman Family Goals / Resolutions 2011

My husband, sons and I sit down and come up with our family goals / prayers / plans / resolutions at the end of each year. Inevitably, we end up in my (and my husband’s!) bed – it really is my favorite family spot in our home. We lounge and talk about the highlights of the past year as well as the things that were not so great. Then, we talk about the future…yay!

It was so neat to see how many things on our 2010 “list” became reality. It’s inevitable that at least a few will come true each year though because we write pretty long lists! I have turned the guys in my house (except Sean) into fellow list makers. I even break them down in categories (Spiritually, Emotionally – they won’t do that one with me though, Relationships, School, Career, Physically, Financially, Home & Vacations/Entertainment). Yes, I know – I have a problem 🙂 Anyway, our 2011 list has a little over 40 items on it. I’ll spare you and just share some of my faves…

-Reggie (my husband) and I want to make sure that we have our monthly “out of the home” date nights as well as weekly dates (in-home or out) and daily connections. We can both get busy with many different things, but we want to make sure that we don’t get too busy for each other!

-Michael wants to get a new belt in karate. He also wants to run a little kids group comprised of the “younger kids” at church. He’s already thinking about the songs that they can sing and the games that they can play (?!) (Kids really do like to imitate their parents. Reggie and I have overseen various group in our church since before Michael was born.)

-Sean didn’t give much input. He put his little hand on his chin and said, “Let me think about it.” (I’m still waiting to hear his thoughts!) Well, he is starting preschool in September, so I’m hoping to find a great 2 1/2 hours daily program in the neighborhood for him.

-We also want to have a special “family date” each month. We spend a lot of time with the kids, but we want to make sure that we set aside special times that we focus on the family unit. (The kids’ favorite times are when we are just hanging out as a family.)

-One of my major personal goals is to sell or redirect the traffic from Mom in the City to the new “Foodie City Mom” site that I plan on launching in June. I also want “something awesome” to happen career-wise. I’m not quite sure what that something is, but I’ll recognize it when it comes. Last of all, I want to be able to do a split by the end of the year. (That is a totally random physical goal, but it’s what I want…) Like in my post picture where I’m doing a backbend, I have a feeling that I will be bending over backwards (metaphorically) in order to make these 2011 goals become a reality!

In any event, I’m excited to see what this year brings. How about you? What are some of your goals or resolutions – as an individual or with your family?
