Have you already made plans for Mother’s Day? If not, consider taking your mom (or a fellow mom) to the NYC showing of Listen To Your Mother. Watch fellow moms “grab the mic” during this reading series as they celebrate motherhood. Since there are a variety of women speaking, there is certain to be shared experiences that you can relate to in regards to parenting. Some of my favorite people (online and offline) are a part of the show including the hilarious Marinka, the born to be fabulous Shari, the vulnerable Varda Steinhardt and the culture-loving Holly Rosen Fink. Other cast members include Harlem native DeBorah Gray, Tracy Beckerman (whose book Lost in Suburbia: A Momoir comes out this month) and former Editor in Chief of Redbook Magazine/current Editor in Chief of BlogHer.com Stacy Morrison.
As moms, we all have a variety of experiences that color the way we look at parenting. This reading series is a great way to listen to glimpses of other mom stories. You can laugh and cry (and everything in between) as these local writers and performers share their stories. Who knows? Perhaps you will walk away with new insights and appreciation regarding your own parenting experience. That would be a great way to celebrate Mother’s Day! As an added bonus, the NYC production will be donating 10% of their proceeds to the Hurricane Sandy relief efforts of the national hunger relief non-profit Family-to-Family.
