The best Big Game commercial and dip recipe…

I am still recuperating from this party-filled weekend. I was out celebrating on Friday and Saturday nights. Then, we had a “Big Game” party at our home on Sunday evening. What started out being five guys coming over to watch the game ended up being 25+ folks having a great time. (The more, the merrier…)

I have not been “into” football since I was a flag girl in high school, so I really didn’t care about the game. Most of the people in our home didn’t either, because the Jets were not playing. Honestly, everyone pretty much talked through the game. My thoughts:

-Christina Aguielera can sing. She messed up a few lyrics, but so what? At least she sounded great singing – the wrong words and the right ones. (Those “perfect people who make no mistakes” critics!)

-The commercials were pretty good for the most part. The crew at my house was cracking up about the Doritoes and Pepsi commercials. The only commercial that I felt was especially inappropriate was the Skechers one with Kim Kardashian. Hello…little kids watch the game. Why does every single thing have to be so over-sexualized? Enough already…put some (more) clothes on! Whatever…we ended up turning the channel during the commercial. Of course, our favorite Big Game commercial was the Darth Vader commercial. How cute was that?!

-Half-time was fine…nothing that spectacular. One of my girlfriends screamed out when Usher made his brief appearance. That was pretty much the highlight.

-If you see me waddling this week, it is because I ate too much on Sunday night! We served the standard Big Game fare – chips, dip, wings, pizza and drinks. A few people brought some unexpected (yet welcome!) additional goodies – jerked chicken, a strawberry shortcake and pastries from Veniero’s Italian bakery. One of my friends also made this delicious sweet and spicy dip that she served with a variety of crackers. The dip was only 2 ingredients. I’m writing this down for future reference:

-Place a jar of Harry & David’s Sweet Red Pepper Spread over a package of Philly cream cheese.

That’s it! Both the girls and the guys loved it. (If you wanted to make the presentation a little bit more appealing, you could place the mixture in the center of a large, cleared-out red pepper and place the crackers around that. Either way…the dip will be gone at the end of your party!)

Did you watch the Big Game? If so, did anything stand out to you?
