I was excited to attend an “Afternoon of Empowerment” yesterday. I will write more about the event soon, but I want to share about the place that the event was held  – Anissa Restaurant NYC.  It is a cozy, little restaurant in Greenwich Village. I have spent a lot of time in this area of Manhattan, but I never saw this restaurant. It is tucked away on Barrow Street, but it’s such a great find!

Annisa is owned and operated by award-winning chef Anita Lo. We were able to briefly hear from Chef Lo (Food & Wine Magazine’s Best New Chef Award winner for 2001) at the event. Chef Lo spoke about how she supports women by offering wines from female vintners at Annisa. The name of the restaurant actually means ”women” in Arabic, so it was an especially great place to have a women’s gathering.

Most importantly, the food was wonderful. Annisa offers contemporary American cuisine with Asian accents. Everything was excellent, but the fish and its broth as well as the hibiscus popsicles were especially exceptional. The blending of American and Asian cultures meld together beautifully at Annisa. (FYI: Prices at the restaurant include service and gratuities are not expected.)

In any event, I highly recommend Annisa for a special dinner night – either with your girlfriends or your significant other.
