Dinner Party for Couples

Peapod.com, the online grocery shopping and delivery service, recently expanded into NYC. To celebrate, the site’s public relations company invited me to test out their service in Queens. They also offered to sponsor a dinner party for some of my friends. Since we constantly have friends over to our home, this was a no-brainer…yes! I am writing a separate post about how Peapod.com works, but I wanted to share with you some of the dinner party for couples ideas that we came up with for the gathering.

Reggie and I decided to do a cooking dinner party for couples. We were also considering doing a Lip Sync Battle like the new show on SPIKE.COM but we decided to save that for another time…when we had enough time to practice. Our family goes all out for lip-sync type events!

We needed to adjust our wigs, but we had fun performing as the Jacksons at a holiday party.

Anyway, we had a blast at the dinner party. Peapod provided me with a gift card to place my grocery order on Peapod.com, gift bags for my friends and access to menu suggestions from their partner Gatheredtable.

Gatheredtable is a great resource for integrated meal plans, grocery lists and delivery service (from Peapod). I prepared a variation of their Lasagna with Turkey Sausage (using ground turkey meat) while each of the other couples was assigned other portions of the meal. They just gave me their ingredient list a couple of days before the party so that I could have them available. (FYI: While Gatheredtable is free to all of its customers for the first 3 months, you will get a full year for free if you’re a Peapod customer first.)

-One couple made a variety of deviled eggs for the appetizers. I LOVE deviled eggs and it turns out that I love them with bacon bits even more!

-Another couple prepared a great green salad. I ordered the wrong olives – green instead of black. The salad was still great though…especially with the bacon bits. What can I say? Bacon really does make (almost) everything taste better!

-Our last couple was going to make brownie sundaes. The wife was a trooper but she was so tired (she was VERY pregnant) that I told her to just sit down and relax/take a “pregnant pause”. (We had a cake for a birthday there anyway, so we just enjoyed that!)

We all had a great time and at the end, everyone left with a gift bag from Peapod.com that included several grocery and household items…along with gift cards to Peapod.com.

(In my next post, I’ll be giving away a $100 Peapod.com gift card to one of you, so that you can experience the ease of shopping on Peapod.com. Stay tuned…)
