Kidde Holiday Home Safety Challenge (with a new Worry-Free
Kitchen Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm giveaway)

by Kimberly on December 17, 2012

Congrats to the winner, Mary DeBorde

I will be honest. I don’t really think that much about holiday fire safety. After attending an UL event back in 2009 where I was able to put out a fire (see image below), I thought that I had a pretty good grip on overall fire safety. However, when a Kidde representative reached out to me to see if I would be interested in discussing holiday fire safety with you, I decided that a “refresher” would not hurt! I took their quick, online Holiday Home Safety Challenge and learned a few things…

  1. Overall, I’m doing pretty well. I scored 85% on the audit. My holiday tree, lights and cords are all safe. I don’t use candles (they weird me out with young kids in the house) so that portion was easy.
  2. There were a couple of areas that I need to change though. I need to communicate my “emergency fire exit plan” to the rest of my family. I have one in my head, but that wouldn’t help in case of an emergency! I also need to make a conscious effort to replace the smoke alarm batteries every 6 months. As I fill out my calendar for 2013, I will just write that in. (If I don’t write it down, then it probably won’t happen!)

As I was doing my home inspection, I realized that I have a Combination Carbon Monoxide/Smoke Alarm that is made by Kidde. It has worked well when “somebody” smokes up the house on occasion while cooking. :-) As such, I have no qualms with recommending this brand.

Now, it’s your turn…

Kidde is going to send one lucky Mom in the City winner its new Worry-Free Kitchen Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm. It uses one battery for the life of the alarm, which is great. It also has a sensor that decreases the amount of time that the alarm will go off based on normal cooking fumes (yes)! To enter to win the alarm, simply fill out the short Kidde Consumer Challenge and leave a comment below letting me know which areas of your home (if any) need attention. I will use random.org to choose a winner on 12/21 at noon. Good luck!

{Disclosure: I was compensated for working on this promotion, but (as always) my thoughts and opinions are not for sale.}

We need to put an alarm in the hallway outside of the bedrooms.

I’m a Holiday Safety Star, too – but I still need to put in an extra alarm near our front bedroom.

You are a Holiday Safety Hero! Don’t have smoke alarm upstairs – all other stuff is good.
Thanks for the contest.
