I’ll Always Love My Mama…

My Mom

Earlier today, I was listening to the lyrics for the song “I`ll Always Love My Mama” by The Intruders.

I`ll always love my mama
She`s my favorite girl
I`ll always love my mama
She brought me in this world

I was talking to my friend Nicole earlier this week and we both agreed that we appreciate our moms so much more now that we are moms ourselves. Bringing another life into the world is something that defies description. Once you actually do it yourself, you “get it”!

Sometimes I feel so bad
When I think of all the things I used to do

Earlier this week, I was speaking on the phone with my mom. I had mentioned that her gift might get there a little bit late. Her answer made me cry. She said, “I don’t need a gift from you. You are my gift. You are the best daughter that a mother could have. You have never given me any trouble. You have been a blessing over the years.” Later that night (after getting over being all misty and homesick), I wondered…do all moms suffer from bad kid memory loss?

Seriously, I am very fotrunate because my mom and I have (almost) always had a great relationship. There were a couple of months during high school when I was a horror though. Looking back now, I can’t believe how selfish I was in my thinking. I was upset with my mom because 1. she couldn’t be in two places at one time (working to keep a roof over my head AND attending all of the gazillion things that I was involved with) and 2. she couldn’t miraculously pull money out of the air to get me my heart’s desires (I wanted a car because “everyone else” had one. Forget the fact that I couldn’t even drive. Yeah, I know…now.) Maybe time (but more likely, it’s love) does heal all wounds.

Talking `bout mama
Oh, she`s one of a kind
Talking `bout mama
Oh, hey mama, hey mama, my heart belongs to you, oh, yeah

You know that’s right. What can I say? I want to be like my mom when I grow up. Happy (early) Mother’s Day Mom!

I’ll leave you with the classic…
