Calypso for Target Preview: Women

Last week, I attended a preview shopping event for Calypso St. Barth for Target at a pop-up store in Soho. (The limited edition collection will be available online and in Target stores from May 1st to June 11th.) When I initially received the invite, I looked online to familiarize myself with the original Calypso St. Barth. At first glance, the line appeared a bit too bohemian for my classic, minimalist tastes. However, when I asked my friends on Facebook, they responded, “Definitely go!” I’m glad that I did. I was gifted a $50 gift card to shop, but I spent more than that. I will be spending even more too, because there is a pair of shoes and a few accessories (that were not available at the preview) that I want to purchase. There were so many different looks that I’m going to share as many as possible so that you will have your orders in mind once the line becomes available on May 1st. Today, I will be showcasing the “Women” line. The rest of the week will feature the following: “Accessories” on Tuesday; “Babies and Kids” on Wednesday and the “Home” line on Thursday.

One thing that I really liked about this particular collection is that it encourages shoppers to use clothes and accessories in unconventional ways. Three ideas that I observed were the following:

1. Use necklaces as bracelets and vice versa (wear bracelets worn as necklaces).

2. Wear maxi skirts as dresses. I am 5’2, so the maxi dress look does not work for me, but this idea could. (Maxi dresses “drown” women with petite heights.)

3. Try dresses as tops over pants. I especially liked this look when there is a brightly colored top over slim white linen pants.

In any event, I had fun at the shopping event…especially since my friend Nicole was there too. I ended up getting an A-line dress ($39.99) and multi-strand necklace ($39.99). I actually wore my outfit to church on Sunday and received many compliments. (In fact, a group of friends are going on a Target shopping date after church on May 1st, because they liked the look so much!)

Meanwhile, you can see twenty of the “Women” looks that will be available at Target along with several other options beginning May 1st. Which ones do you like the most?

In any event, the countdown begins. Be sure to visit Target online or at their physical stores on May 1st to shop the Calypso St. Barth for Target line.
