Chief Household Officer: Career + Family – Can you have it all?

As a mom, I have totally given up on the traditional concept of “balance”. Rather, when I can juggle all of my various roles without dropping the ball, I’m happy. For instance, Michael almost missed school this morning. I’m a little under the weather and I slept half an hour more than normal. Fortunately, everything worked out and he arrived (just) on time. His socks didn’t match his outfit, but oh well…

Anyway, my friends at HP recently shared with me about a new YouTube web series that they are collaborating on with Howcast called, “Chief Household Officer.” The premise is to take viewers inside the homes of various high profile women who are using technology to run both their businesses and their households. The first woman that they profiled was model/actress Veronica Webb who is who is currently launching two accessory lines, “Perfect Little Thing” and “Diamonds for Breakfast”. Take a peek…

What did you think? I think that some of the themes that she shared are common to all moms. However, her day seemed much smoother than any mom that I know! Having a double duty karate teacher/French tutor sounds great. (I’m happy if i can get in my half an hour of Kickboxing on Exercise TV each day!) Also, the kids each getting their dinner request (cod and lamb chops) – Veronica is a much nicer mom than I am to cook both. (I don’t have time to make multiple meals each night!) Overall though, I applaud Veronica for making the juggle work as a divorced mom with two kids. I can barely juggle with my husband around to pitch in!

In any event, I do use technology (including my fax/printer) to manage my life. I have had a HP fax/printer/scanner (that I bought) for as long as I can remember. It definitely helps me juggle better. Now if that printer could only fold laundry and help kids during homework hour, I would be a gazillionaire 🙂

Do you find that technology helps or hinders your ability to “juggle” your life as a mom better?
